The character of a lighting piece that is directly related to a space, to a place, to an object, to a certain function obligates to a more complex study and a careful analysis, not only on a technical level but also aesthetical. Designing a luminaire for a consulting and studying space demands a different approach - is quite different from housing lamps. Representing “the cherry on the top” was the main goal for the lamps’ character along the top of the tables.

Lighting should not be only about function. It needs to play an important role in the experience of the space. Here, they give it a soul, a “je ne sais quoi”, a proper identity with its calm lighting and materiality.
The study cases resided on the study of the industrial technical lightning, the great modernist cultural projects (museums, libraries, theatres of Nordic architecture), and the intimate spaces where lightning assumes a strong identity (as Siza’s churchs, Baeza’s museums).


Supporting a 7kg porcelain slab needs a fixing reinvention. The answer was on a pre-made aluminium profile for ventilated facades which could braces the long 60cm blades of porcelain. The metal side wings could control the light and hide its components. The object was also glazed not only to get more presence on the space, but also to reflect it.

At the end, Ana was linked with the space – the library –, with the place – working area -, with an object – the tables -, and also with a function – the study -, adding character and singularity to the library’s identity.
